Author's note: This adventure takes place in the year 10107, two years after the storms and tsunami.
The sun was bright and warm, shining in the sky and child moon was rising, alone over the eastern horizon, wandering away from mother moon like all toddlers will often do. Nectar was fluttering among some flowers sipping nectar from some large trumpet shaped pale blue flowers.
"Nectar find much good flowers to drink from," It spoke, uncaring there was no one else there to hear it, pleased at finding food for itself. "Nectar fly long time to find Sea-Highthing." Nectar flew up and straddled one of the flowers to rest its weary wings. It spied a long thin brown seed pod, and picked it, then used its thumb claw to slice it open from stem to flower nub. Grasping it between both hands Nectar pried it open and put its face firmly into the pod eating the small black seeds and the soft, dark brown pulp. The smell of vanilla wafting up and scenting the area. Finished, Nectar belched, startling a few small rodents rooting around in the forest leaf litter.
Nectar, stuffed with food, went off in search of water. It fluttered along a muddy animal trail heading to the ocean. It had rained the previous night, and there were bound to be some freshwater puddles among the rocky shoreline that it could drink from. As it got closer to the wave smoothed rocks, sunlight glinting off the puddles there it saw something strange. One pool of water, closer to the sea's edge, a little fountain of water kept spraying upwards, and splashing back down into the tide pool.
"Hmmmm, Nectar not see water squirt like that before." It sang in happiness as it flew to investigate this odd occurence, "Dreedle-Diri-Breeeet-Deeeee!" Another jet of water fountained up a good foot above the pool's surface. Nectar flew closer to see if it could see what was doing this odd thing with the water. Its silver and gold eyes blinking to focus through the refraction of the water. SQUIRT, right in Nectar's face! Nectar flew back up into the air, not used to suffering such an indignity. Wiping the salt water from its face, Nectar placed its limpet shell hat forward on its head by pushing up the back of its hat.
"Nectar vexed!" Again it flew towards the salt water pool, this time coming in low and slow. Landing on the lip, it peered in. Nectar looked carefully, but all it could see were the rocks of the pool, shells, and some seaweed. A movement caught it's eye, something coiling and curling, white discs flashing in movement. Something no bigger than Nectar itself. Then it saw the eyes on top of the creature's very well camouflaged "head/body"?
SQUIRT in Nectars face again! How was the Squirtything doing that? While Nectar wondered about the creature, one of the Octopus' eight tentacles lined with two rows of suckers slunk along the bottom of the pool towards Nectar. The tip of the arm came out of the water and touched Nectar's chest, latching on to Nectar. Nectar flew up but was stuck to this thing's arm. A tug of war ensued between both small beings. Nectar gave one mighty heave and pulled the thing part way out of the water.
SQUIRT, went a siphon from the side of the creature, Nectar finally seeing the source of the water jet, just before it was hit in the eyes.
"Nectar much vexed!" The creature was now using it's seven other arms to hold it on the edge of the pool, half in and out of the water. Nectar couldn't budge it and it couldn't budge Nectar.
"Many-Armed-Squirtything strong, and squirt Nectar in the eyes. Nectar can squirt too! HEE HEE!" and with that, Nectar puffed itself up and spat forth a rush of wrapstuff. The octopus got it right in the eyes, and then Nectar aimed a second volley at the siphon. The octopus released Nectar who flew off a good distance doing victory loops in the air. Nothing bests Nectar, ever. Nectar could see the creature now it's eyes covered in wrapstuff that it was trying to hurriedly remove with its many arms. The little octopus finished clearing its eyes and seemed to huff and shrug in resignation.
Nectar flew on alone, following the coast, and some kind of pull on it's insect brain, trying to find the Sea-Highthing.
